NYU Shanghai - Interactive Media Arts
Interactive Media Arts (IMA) at NYU Shanghai is an undergraduate program and an academic community of artists, thinkers, and creators dedicated to advancing both theory and practice in media arts, while encouraging interdisciplinary research and critical, artistic exploration. IMA aims to foster a diverse and inclusive environment for nurturing creativity, experimentation, and collaboration. Through exploration, creative expression, and social engagement, we cultivate future artists and scholars who will reshape the evolving field of emerging media. “Flow” signifies a continuous, directional movement. It is not merely an entropic diffusion of matter, but a focused and resilient presence. The accumulation of elements, the gathering of participants, and the convergence of various forces align in counterpoint under subtle magnetic influence, coalescing into a more powerful whole that reinforces its own direction and attraction. "Flow" evolves over time, meandering and adapting to its context. It is a malleable entity, unbounded by skin or shell. "Flow" is an energy propelled by the pull of attraction, leaving traces and impressions along its path. In the "FutureLab 2025" exhibition, featuring works from the NYU Shanghai IMA program, the NYU Tisch School of the Arts IMA Low Res MA Program, and the NYU Global AI Student Showcase, the exhibited pieces embody the multiple currents and pathways each artist has explored as students, graduates, and researchers. These currents traverse the NYU global education network, with each work absorbing influences from the people and places encountered along its journey, shaping its very form. Diverse ideas and cultural memes are acquired through experience, accumulated through research, and refined through dialogue. Each piece carries the current energy of NYU, expressed through the artist's focused attention and intense curiosity, and projected with active intention toward the future it envisions.
